The Ballet Workout

Currently, I have been in love with ballet. I have been able to go see the Pennsylvania Ballet twice this week, first performing George Balanchine's Jewels and then performing A Gift for the City, a compilation of dances in their repertoire. Ballet is a beautiful art form and the strength, grace, balance, and dedication it takes to perform is breath-taking. Here are a few of my favorite exercise videos that I use when I want to feel like a ballerina and some videos I can't wait to check out!

This is the ultimate ballet workout in my opinion. It's a great place to start because it does really well with teaching proper form and explaining what a certain move is supposed to accomplish. It is taught by New York City Ballet dancers and covers everything that a dancer does in warm-up and practice. It even choreographs a few short dances! This workout isn't too cardio-intensive but you will certainly finish feeling longer and leaner!

This video looks a lot like what I do in a barre class that I take. LOTS of calf raises and squats. I can only imagine that my legs will be DYING after I try this video. I can't wait!

This is a great total body sculpting video. You use light weights to tone your arms and a lot of leg and core work also. I like the instructor too!

If I do this video will I have her legs?!? This video is all mat work, or floor barre if you will. It's like a pilates ballet hybrid and I love it.

This is a definite leg-shaping, balance focused workout. Cassey Ho (the woman behind Blogilates) is youthful and energetic. Lots of leg raises and pulsing!

What's your favorite ballet inspired workout? I'd love to know!
